I found this in the NSW State Archives: MCINTOSH Alexander Athol Gardens Master Mariner 12/10/1878 14354 and this in the papers: Australian Town and Country Journal (NSW : 1870 - 1907) Saturday 22 December 1877 A valuable little addition has just been made to ¡the fleet of small steamers connected with the port, line new vessel is named the Eva, afine screw boat ¡built by Dunn, of North Shore, for Messrs McIntosh and Venus, proprietors of Athol Gardens. The Eva is 90 feet long and 10 feet beam; she has a fine roomy fridge amidships, and a beautifully fitted up cabin, ohe is moreover very fast, and upon her trial trip run over the mile at the rate of ll knots. The engines are high-pressure, having been constructed by Mr. Vale, of Pyrmont. ..... There is a report of the TASSO caught in a storm and all the horses it was shipping died- no mention of any crew The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954) Monday 9 October 1871 .... re Alex's occupation - was he a master mariner or always a 'mate' of varying rank? Sarah said he was a Chief Mate in 1861...the TASSO had Capt HEARD for a number of years. Do you know what vessels he was actually captain of , if any?
