    3. Hi Jocelyn, Thank you for your time and assistance in looking for Francis Baines. He was my gg grandmother's brother, so know his parents were James Baines and Margaret Quinn (born Dublin), Francis was born in Manchester, Lancashire, I don't have the actually birth record, but according to 1881 census he was 20, so birth being around 1861. (My gg grandmother was Jessie Baines born 1856) It was not long after this that he went to Aust in search of gold, he did find gold, but was murdered a short time after, I am actually trying to find his death and murder details. He could have died in another State, but wish to see if there is a death record in Vic first. Many thanks Colleen ----- Original Message ----- From: "JB" <jabond@tpg.com.au> To: <aus-vic@rootsweb.com>; <AUS-VIC-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 24, 2012 11:01 AM Subject: Re: [AUS-VIC] FRANCIS BAINES >I found this - only one that sort of matches! > > Name: Francis Baines - aged 31 > Port of Departure: London > Port of Arrival: Sydney, New South Wales - also on the Pro Vic > website > Voyage Arrival Date: 14 Jul 1884 > Vessel Name: John Elder > But this fellow travelled with Margaret,18 Mary A,56, John, 20 and > William > BAINES, 52 > > There is also this: > > Name: Mr F Baines > Port of Departure: Melbourne > Port of Arrival: Sydney, New South Wales > Voyage Arrival Date: 14 Sep 1883 > Vessel Name: Ly Ee Moon > > > Marriages Sep 1851 > Baines James Chorlton 20 136 > Quinn Margaret Chorlton 20 136 > > I am wondering where you got the info that the above were Francis's > parents- > the only Francis BAINES, with a birth of abt 1856 ( in Lancaster), I can > find so far, is the son of Thomas and Margaret ( b 1826 Scotland) BAINES > > Perhaps if you have a few more clues, we can search further > > Cheers > Jocelyn > > > -----Original Message----- > From: aus-vic-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-vic-bounces@rootsweb.com] > On > Behalf Of Colleen Wells > Sent: Friday, 24 August 2012 8:37 AM > To: AUS-VIC-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [AUS-VIC] FRANCIS BAINES > > Hi List, > > Just need help in finding any records for FRANCIS (Frank) BAINES born > Lancashire England about 1856, parents James Baines and Margaret Quinn. > > Arrived in Victoria 1884 but was murdered a short time later while > searching > for gold. > > Can not find anything on Trove Newspaper Archives, although have not > completed a full search using name variants. > > Was hoping his death may have been reg in Vic. > > Many thanks > Colleen Wells > NSW > > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > AUS-VIC-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes > in the subject and the body of the message > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > AUS-VIC-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

    3. Hi Colleen There are quite a few Francis BAINES!....its difficult to find someone without a bit of background when there are so many...you said in your first post he was born 1856 - but then in your last post 1861...so that makes it a bit tricky. Was Francis with his family in 1881? Did he come out with his family? How long after do you think he was murdered? I have searched Trove as well and nothing jumps out!!
