Edward's father was a shoemaker. Both Edward and Charlotte said they were living in Carrawa , Edward was a labourer, born Gunderoo NSW and could not sign his name, but Charlotte, born Avoca Vic signed hers. They were married by and at the home of Rev William GOULD of Barkly St Benalla who was a 'Primitive Methodist'. 2 witnesses - Charlotte's father, who signed his name and Emily Martha RYAN ( her mark X)..sadly, it looks like Emily died aged only 19..must have been just after the marriage as death is 1874- probably a friend of Charlotte's. Interesting that Edward James FOSTER was buried RC in 1929..I wonder if this marriage didn't last?? ..... a Miss LEE helped with a fundraiser bazaar at the Primitive Methodist church in 1873- you can search these yourself sometime: The North Eastern Ensign (Benalla, VIC. : 1872 - 1938) Friday 17 October 1873 Well this has taken all day, searching high and low and I have no further clues re Joseph, Anna or Charlotte ( apart from their children etc which you have)...it is interesting about the marriage in 1851 for Joseph Allen LEE - I wonder if his first wife died and he didn't re-marry but just lived with Anna DRAPER...it wouldn't be very Methodist though I reckon! I wonder if it is worth getting the marriage cert - it might shed some light as to his parentage etc Name: Joseph Allen Lee Spouse Name: Sarah Adams Marriage Date: 3 Feb 1851 Marriage Place: Adelaide Registration Place: Adelaide, South Australia Page Number: 235 Volume Number: 4 Then I thought I would check out SA and lo! I found these articles after searching everywhere eles all day - not what you want to hear I guess South Australian (Adelaide, SA : 1844 - 1851) Tuesday 25 March 1851 POLICE COURT.Friday, March 21. Joseph Lee, in custody for beating bis wife, WM discharged fur want of evidence. then - woops, I found this: South Australian Register (Adelaide, SA : 1839 - 1900) Saturday 22 March 1851 Joseph Lee appeared to the complaint of .his wife, Sarah Lee,- for beating and otherwise ill-using her. A quarrel had arisen respecting the price of some liquor that had been sent for in her house (a house of ill fame) by some male acquaintance who had come in. . : ' ', The prisoner denied the entire charge. The woman' was a lunatic, well known as an habitual drunkard; and in 'the habit of being seen drunk about the streets. ' He. thought, it very hard that he should have to answer for the bruises' she got in these brawls. ! ??? ?-'? '' The prosecutrix not producing any witnesses, the Magistrate dismissed the case. ? i..'1''' ''?' . ;' That Sarah LEE appeared on the papers a few times- including an article saying she was living with a mr Taylor and that her husband had gone to 'the diggings'..you can read it here: South Australian Register (Adelaide, SA : 1839 - 1900) Saturday 21 February 1852 Its easier to search for Sarah LEE than Joseph LEE in Sth Aust as a shipping vessel has the same name...
