I'll try the site again, i though t i was having trouble accessing from England, That makes sense, in 1851 census, Kate is with her Father s sister Mary Ann Bassett (nee Maggs), her husband William Bassett and Rebecca Thomson. Rebecca Wade ( i haven't been able to find that ...brilliant !) was frst married to James Maggs, then John Thomson. So 2 Maggs children and 2 Thomson. So Mary Ann Maggs and Rebecca Thomson have the same mother and different fathers, Mary Ann and rebecca T are half sisters. Mary Ann Basseeet was born 1809 in KEnt, I found someone matching this details on an Oz site, marrying one Obed Woodhams, so wonder if thi is my Mary Ann. This is so good, I am over the moon, i'll have a look at the links if they work today. Thanks very much Emma x Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In the 1920s-1940s it seems it was called Highbury Private Hospital. There is also reference to a Rossmoyne Private Hospital and also Englewood Private Hospital, both in Burwood the 1950s, and a St Bernard's Private Hospital in Burwood in the early 1900s, but not sure if they are all the same place. Author: Partita Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.oceania.australia.vic.general/10935.1.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Jocelyn has done wonderful work here but for anyone researching the Cowlands and Arnolds in Australia it must be noted that is not possible that my ŽSusan ArnoldŽfrom Charlwood is Susannah Cowland. There are too many discrepancies. My Susan was born in Charlwood, Susannah in Suffolk. Prior to leaving for Australia, Susannah lived next door to her parents and siblings (recorded in the 1851 census). On that 1851 census, her mother is Sarah, not SusanŽs Mary and... this is really the key point... her sister Sarah is alive. SusanŽs sister Sarah died 2 weeks old in Charlwood in 1817. Susannah has a brother named Thomas, SusanŽs is Benjamin. The similarities between the families are there - John- farmer Dad, daughters Susan, Sarah, Mary all born about the right time - but ultimately, they are not the same family. Happy researching, Susan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I did manage to come up with a new way to search on Ancestry.com - lucky I have the exact date of arrival, because ta-da: Name: Rebecca Thomson-james MAGGS half-sister Birth: abt 1818 Departure: London & Plymouth Arrival: 7 Aug 1854 - Melbourne, Australia There is also this.... Name: Maryann Basset Birth: abt 1824 Departure: London & Plymouth Arrival: 7 Aug 1854 - Melbourne, Australia Nearly all the names on this passenger list are spelt wrongly - the record must be very faded or damaged - so Maryann's birth year could easily be the same as Kate's name on the list - hard to read! No original is available yet. I'm glad I checked the 1851 census. Maybe Kate's father was already ill by 1851.. there is this marriage...she was quick off the mark!! Name: Rebecca Thompson Spouse: Michael Mcclusky Marriage: 1854 - Victoria and here is Rebecca's death - now, hopefully you have her mother's maiden name: Name: Rebecca Mcclusky Death Place: Hawthorn, Victoria Age: 84 Father's Name: Thompson Jno Mother's name: Rebecca Wade Registration Year: 1902 Registration Place: Victoria Registration number: 5806 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1818 I can't find any children for rebecca and not much to go on for Michael - there was an MM charged with being drunk and disorderly in 1886- the only ref to an MM in Vic....I'm not sure if the marriage lasted. I can find no trace of this pair either after 1851 census, and am wondering if they are also candidates for being on board. Author: vcuskelly Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.oceania.australia.vic.general/10934.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Alison Thanks for the information, which has helped a lot in clarifying things for me eg. it is interesting to see how Buninyong has been transcribed/interpreted on the free BDM. It helped too when I realised Sandridge is actually in Melbourne - made it much more cohesive. I think Agnes has to belong, even though Harriet's name is given as Smith, given the time and that they are in Buninyong. The Thompsons from Sunbury could well be the correct ones - although Harriet's stated age is 10 years older than reality, that's not unusual. A pity her parents' names weren't included. There was an Andrew Thomson born about 1839 in Paisley, mother Elizabeth, father Andrew - again, not outside the realms of possibility. I found further details on Maggie - married Herbert Matthew Wright 1909 Vic; daughter Marjorie Nell born 1910; Maggie died 1966. Thanks again for your help. My great great grandmothers husband left her she then got friendly with a neighbour. As far as our family new when they got their own place together she changed her surname to his and just pretended to be married. Well, i got her death certificate yesterday which says "Second Marriage, 37 years to John James Rodgers" Ive had a look in the indexes and cant find a marriage, but i also noted in the electrol roles she actually lived with a Burnard Rodgers not John James. So im a bit stuck and confused. Oh her name is Dorothy Mildred Westlake, first marriage was to Ernest William Heywood. Thanks :-) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
