Outing passenger lists from 1890-1960 are indexed on a subscription site In your case the passenger list for the Demosthenes departing Liverpool on 6 Nov 1926 is the one you want. It lists Mrs Beatrice ARMSTRONG, Leslie ARMSTRONG, Ernest ARMSTRONG, James ARMSTRONG and Maurice ARMSTRONG. However the index does not show a SIM among the 931 passengers. the only listing of James SIM arriving in Melbourne are in 1923 and 1924 both were for 1872 or maybe the same person travelling back and forth. Thank you so very much! I have no idea who Janet's parents were. We've done searches on Scotland's People that have four or five different Janet Paul's around the right age in the Paisley area so it could be any of them. The problem with the poor (and we're pretty sure Janet was very poor as she was illiterate from her chldren's BC's where she just left a mark) is that they leave such a little footprint. It seems Archibald made a bit of money before he died but their early life was not one of riches. Her illiteracy also causes age issues - on her chidlren's BC's her age varies. On George's (b 1854) she is 23 - ties in with 1830 birth date. However on William's BC she is also 23 - however he was born in 1856! On the arrival data into Australia we have for Janet it says she was a domestic - does that tally with what the 11 year old was doing? though I suppose she could've changed careers. I had found Archie's will - he seems a bit of a tyrant! Janet lost everything if she remarried - no idea if she did or not. We have a few of their children's BC's - George, William, John, Jane and Rupert's. We can't find any record of Jessie. They had a child who died - Isabella but no record of her either. Thinking of the Scottish way of naming children Janet's father might have been William as that is the name of their second son. Anyway thank you so very much for all your help.
