Hi Jocelyn, Thank you for your time and assistance in looking for Francis Baines. He was my gg grandmother's brother, so know his parents were James Baines and Margaret Quinn (born Dublin), Francis was born in Manchester, Lancashire, I don't have the actually birth record, but according to 1881 census he was 20, so birth being around 1861. (My gg grandmother was Jessie Baines born 1856) It was not long after this that he went to Aust in search of gold, he did find gold, but was murdered a short time after, I am actually trying to find his death and murder details. He could have died in another State, but wish to see if there is a death record in Vic first. I have manage to track Sarah McIntosh and the Nicholson side of the family quite easily and have found distant relatives...one of which you listed. Charles McIntosh b Amherst was my g grandad and have managed to find out lots bout his brother James who was a whaler I know when Agnes married in 1871 her father (alexander) was listed as deceased Also contacted lloyds captains register and tracked Alexanders voyages The last entry was 1871....listed as captain of a ship named Tasso which "foundered" in feb 1871...being the last entry i wonder if he was killed at sea??? Listed as a foreign ship the register has no further record of this ship. I know Sarah returned alone with the children and Alexander stayed in Australia for whatever reason Other relatives i have found have had no other information...its a mystery as to what became of him. My gran always said he was buried in Australia...little information about him in the uk either Also, young Alexander was born here in Scotland but died in infancy. i know they arrived on the Mermaid, they moved from Richmond to Ballarat, they lived in Amherst,,,he made tents for miners then started diggin himself.. had some success then went back to sea. Sarah was homesick and returned, she lived til a ripe old age. He is the mystery man and would love to find out what became of him I cannot find anything about his parents, know he was b.dundee 1822 and became a MS by age 20 then nothing til he marries Sarah. Cant seem to find anything....stumped Paula Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
