I am searching for information on John McRAE and Georgina ROSS. They married in Ballarat 1862 and had one child, Catherine in 1863. I believe they then returned to Scotland after 1863 but before 1867. They had four more children (1867-1876). Where would I find where they returned to Scotland. Any help greatly appreciated. My line is from his brother Jan. What I have found so far is that he married Mary Jane Matthews in Melbourne, Victoria in 1923. I've also found him on the electoral roll for quite a few years in Darebin, Victoria. On some of the later ones there is a John Daniel Scholtz living in the same house as John and Mary. Effie McEwan is my great grandmother, she had a daughter Edith May McPherson b.13.10 1904 in Carlton ,she was only 18yrs old. The father was James McPherson . Edith was raised we believe as his little sister by her grandmother and grandfather - we dont know when they told her but it does say on her marraige cert. that Effie and James are her parents. Effie was born in Caramut Vic. She returned there and later and at the age of 27 married Thomas Beard and had a further 3 children Lillian being one of them . Are You able to see my family tree on here? If so you can see all the info on there and check that it is correct .Effie died in Terang Vic . 1945 age 59yrs.Do you have a tree on here? On behalf of a very good, elderly friend, I am trying to track down his extremely elusive late father, Harry Williams. Harry's marriage certificate states he married Vera Ethel Baker in Hobart Registry Office 31.5.1922. He said he was born in Victoria, and that his parents' names were Angus & Elizabeth Williams (nee Smyth/Smith?). Harry said he was 44 when he married, making his birth year 1878. Angus Williams' occupation was 'Monumental Mason'. When Harry married Vera Baker in 1922, they already had 5 children born in Tasmania, and my friend said he would not be surprised if his father had left behind another family in Victoria or N.S.W. Possibly his first wife had died, clearing the way for the 2nd marriage to take place? My friend would be just so pleased if he could find out whether Angus/Elizabeth Williams were married in Victoria, and whether his father Harry Williams was born in Victoria. My dear friend has no living siblings, so nobody else to ask these questions. Any assistance that could be given would be most appreciated. Janet.

I believe that Violet Nicholls/née Aston adopted Violet and then married our great grandfather James Ridley Nicholls. A Violet Florence Aston was born to a couple related to Violet Nicholls. Same birth date same name living in Footscray. How this came to be I don't know. The parents were Violet's brother and his wife. Baby Nicholls died in childbirth aged 42. My mother was one of the children aged 9 Nancy Noel Williams. But no children were born to Violet and James Ridley Nicholls.
