It is getting more and more interesting as we go along. You have given me a lot to keep me busy. I am very grateful for your help. Grace made herself out to be 7 years older on the 1891 census. I wonder if it really was her. One of Walter Dudley's brother's, Carr Dudley born 1823, emigrated to Australia too, i.e. arrived Feb 1854 on board the Java and seems to have married a Delia Anne, daughter of Captain James Ollard, from Limehouse, London on 13th Nov., 1856. I did not know that there is a Camberwell in Melbourne too. Thank you for the info. Best regards, Sue Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He was born Arthur John Gilder 29 October 1921 in Queensland and at some point assumed the name Arthur John O'Brien. I know he was still using Gilder when he married in NSW in 1942. He had changed to O'Brien by 1954, but I don't know how long prior to this he changed. His children were born as O'Brien in Victoria from this date. I am in regional WA so not able to get to any BDM offices in QLD, NSW or VIC to research this any further. Can anybody give me any advice on what the next logical step would be? Where did you manage to find all of that? I only managed to find the article about Alice Marian Dudley on the National Australian Library website. I am not sure how to go about finding Australian records etc. Is there something like the FreeBMD for Australia? Where and how can one order certificates in Australia? Walter Dudley and Mary Ann Love had a daughter together born October 1852. They did not marry, and obviously he left for Australia shortly after her birth. This daughter was my great great grandmother. I have her marriage certificate, in which she stated the name of her father. He was from Shadwell, not Camberwell. His elder brother Samuel was a meat salesman in London, and did well for himself, so it makes sense that Walter went into the same line of business. Before he went to Australia, he called himself a 'gentleman'(see 1851 census and daughter's MC). No idea why. If I understand correctly, his first wife, Elizabeth Bedwell, was the sister of his second? Maybe she had been married before therefore the surname Bedwell? You are correct, the 1861 census shows Mary Lilla together with a William Love born 1845, and Anna Love, aged about 60. However in the meantime I have done some research and found out that Anna Love was Lilla's grandmother, not her mother. William was her uncle. Well, I have quite a lot to look into now. Very interesting. Many thanks indeed. Regards, Sue Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [AUS-VIC] Typhoon to Victoria 1853
    2. A bit more from that Tree...according to the Tree, Catherine had been married to a Henry SHORTALL and had a son Henry in 1854.... I haven't found a record to verify this, however there is a death cert for James Valentine and on that it states his mother was nee SHORTEN. Not sure if this where the assumption has been made her maiden name was SHORTEN or not, but death certs are often quite inaccurate for parent details. To try and find Catherine's arrival we would have to know if her name really was SHORTEN I guess. 10 March 1853: SHIP TYPHOON, >From Glasgow. PASSENGERS per Typhoon are informed that the lighter Carry More is now discharging at Cole's Wharf, and that each passenger will be responsible for the safety of his luggage, as the agents do not take charge of it after landed. DICKSON, GILCHRIST, & CO., Agents. Melbourne. 10th March. 238G9 ...... ‘TYPHOON’ Built 1852. Iron ship of 965 Tons. Built for Potter and Co. Reg; Glasgow. Master; Captain A.Smith. She ran from Glasgow to Sydney as a passenger ship. Glasgow-Australia service. ......

It is a pain having to go from ome thread to another trying to see what has already been found. What does her daughters marriage cert state? Where did the death date you supplied come from? If you think she is the one born 1882 (as mentioned on last thread) why not purchase the death cert and verify? Kellie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi to all I am sorry to keep plagueing the list but I am desperately trying to find this man. I have found him named in a death registryof a child in Melbourne. His address is listed as Black ???? (looks like Wood) Street North Melbourne.. It looks like his occupation is listed as 1 Dray Man. In answer to the question Where Born and how long in the Australian Colonies the father answered Melbourne and 12 months. The child is listed as being 12 months old at death. Original information of Harold's death entry states he was married in Avoca Victoria. I am at a complete loss as I have been unable to find him anywhere. By my calculatons Harold was born in 1832, (Lancashire - but have been unable to find it) and married in 1858 - 59. He came to New Zealand in 1859 his death registery entry states his parents were William Harold and Margaret Gordon Clements. Trusting someone can come up with some information as to where I can try and look. Any help appreciated. Alma
