We had to include Kelly in his death notice as noone knew it was him who had died when he was listed as Kevin. It's the same as people being called Harry when their names are Henry or Jack when their names are John/James.. Just happens sometimes. I thought everyone had to list themselves on the electoral roll. Even so I can't understand why someone would say she's Married too John when everyone called him burnard. Alfred was living with Dorothy in 1941 Dorothy didn't move untill about 1943 that's when she was listed as living with burnard. Only those two lived together no one else live with them but I know what your saying that someone could have just not changed their address. I will try and find out who John is. Thanks for your help. I have a John Smith who died in Port Fairy, Victoria on 30 April 1859. According to his death certificate he was 29 years of age and was born in Kent, England. He has been in Victoria for 12 years. No parents are listed. He was married to Mary Anne Hoey and she was pregnant with their fourth daughter when he died in an accidental death. I have his death certificate, burial records and "Letters of Intestate". I have five possible John Smith's born in Kent in this time period but with a name like John Smith I have hit a brick wall. Am I overlooking any other record in Victoria which may provide me with his parents names. I can't identify which John Smith he was arriving in 1847. Any suggestions from anyone of another source I can try. Hi Heather, I would make contact with the Port Fairy Genealogy Society http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~auspfgs/index.html They would have their finger on the pulse re which John Smith was which. Although there will be a research fee it would be worth your while to find out. They may have a newspaper item about the accidental death of John. I have checked TROVE and couldn't find anything, but maybe the particular newspaper is not on TROVE. Fabulous, thank you once again. So, Alice was an actress as well. I don't understand why David and Alice didn't marry, especially as they had children together, or maybe they did, but we haven't found the marriage entry yet. Some of her descendants lived in my area. Anyway, you have given a lot of interesting things to read and work on. I am very grateful to you. Thank you so much, Jocelyn. Two busy days babysitting my grandchildren. You are definitely right about my getting a lot more than I could ever have hoped for. I posted the request for info on Walter Dudley and didn't really think there would be much chance of getting a reply, but well, well, I was very wrong. Thank you so much for your help. I managed to find a much better quality picture at www.pictorialgems.com/1896-Cinderella-Miss-Grace-Dudley-Grand-theatre-Leeds.50089, so I don't think I'll be buying it. I can definitely see some family resemblance, though her colouring was different. Here's where I found out about Charles Cherry and Grace Dudley and their Broadway plays http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0156060/otherworks. It was just after their marriage, but Grace was still using her maiden name. I will have to see about joining my local library. Olive Dudley could be the daughter of Carr Dudley and wife Delia. I still have to do some research on them. This is all so interesting and I can see myself being kept busy on this family for a long time to come. Thank you so much once again. Do you have death info etc for John James? How do you know the Bernard on Elect Rolls isn't a son of John James from a previous relationship? or just a relation of some sort? When her son Alfred HEYWOOD enlisted in 1941 he lists Dorothy as his NOK as Dorothy HEYWOOD...so he knew she wasn't married..and states he lived with her at 113 Barkley Street. Just because two people live together doesn't mean they both contacted Elect Office and updated details... John James may have never updated his address info. I see Burnard doesn't appear on rolls till 1943...maybe that is because he didn't turn 21yo until 1943?? Kellie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is what the informant believed to be true at the time. Some can be wrong because the informant is so grief stricken that are not thinking properly and supply incorrect names. I have death certificates with incorrect parents listed, assumed marriages that never took place or missing information. If the informant thought Dorothy was married then that is what would be on the death certificate. Another possibility is that maybe the informant considered it a scandal and maintained the lie to protect Dorothy's reputation. John James Rodgers (as said on the Death Certificate) was known as Burnard all our family called him Burnard and in the elctrol roll he is burnard but the spelling does change to bernard. Ive checked to see if other people were living with them but there was never a John James Rodgers living with Dorothy (Well not that i can find.) >From what our family believe there was no marriage. it was all faked by Dorothys name change, however i would have assumed for it to be written on a death certificate as "second Marriage" there would have to be somekind of proof. But Im not sure on what the laws were back then. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
