I think you can rule out the Qld girl: MBS. M. S. MURRAY. A well-known identity of North Queensland, Mrs. Margurite Susan Murray, collapsed and died at her home, Esplanade, Cairns, yesterday morning, at the age of 51 years. The deceased was the wife of Mr. Cosmo Kayser Murray, and before her marriage was a Miss Pengelly, of Townsville also refs to DCM's bankruptcy and maintenance...also google his name - lots of articles about him This 'confirmation' has me intrigued - address says Chepstowe Villers, at St John's Holland Rd-where the Murrays lived Name: David Christie Murray Est. Birth Year: abt 1891 Age: 21 Confirmation Date: 15 Mar 1912 Parish: Notting Hill, St John Borough: Kensington and Chelsea County: Middlesex DCM also had another daughter with his first wife - she died young though: Edith Harris Murray 1872 - 1884 ................... I can;t believe how many Grace DUDLEYs,and Marjorie MURRAYS etc were actresses.... Thankyou for the all info but I have that info already and have previously looked at the probate & will & purchased the Death & Marriage Cert of that William Lewis who died 1887 (Vic). Unfortunatley this is not the right oneas he would have had to arrived in 1852 according to death Cert and my William Lewis arrived abt 1864. Have no idea when the father William Lewis died. Information from family is vague but according to sons death Cert he spent first 21 years in Vic & 49 years in NSW and died aged 73 which seem to say he was three when he arrived in Aust. I am trying to find their birth entries, but no luck so far. If their parents did not marry, they should have been registered as Dudley, but I cannot find them under that name either. What a coincidence that Dora lived near you and worked at your library! I can see there's someone who has her in their tree on here. There are several other Christie Murrays too, some born in Wales, and a James Christie Murray who travelled from Sydney to London. But I will stick to the Walter Dudley descendants for the time being as they are related to me. Do you know when Dora emigrated to Australia? It is possible that Marjorie went over with Dora. Can you give me more info on the Marjorie in Cairns please? Where did you find this info? I would be very grateful if you could find out more about Dora. David Christie Murray married Alice Lydia Mabel in 1880 and she divorced him in 1894. I see there is an earlier marriage for a David Christie Murray in 1871, but as 'our' David was born in 1862, I don't think that could have been him. In 1901, Dora's sister is transcribed as Margaret C MURRAY, born 1898 Beckenham KENT, but if the original is looked at closely, it can be seen her name is Marjorie C born Beckenham Kent In 1911, Dora and ( OK I am presuming) Marjory ( not ie) are at school in Uplands Gloucestershire...Marjory is transcribed and shown on original as Marjory G MURRAY-WILLIAMS b 1898 Peckenham Middlesex the name Williams is actually impossible to read so it could be anything and I think that Marjory is Dora's sister as the birth place and date matches and the 'G' could be a 'c' for Christie I have searched all day for Marjorie and nothing jumps out - so i decided to try Australia - there is one with the same name in Cairns - in plays and teaching speech ( just like the Dudley girls), but she belongs to another family..there are a couple in NSW but they don;t fit The only thing I can think of is Grace Edith DUDLEY ( who married Charles CHERRY) and her niece, Marjorie Christie MURRAY disappeared together as neither can be found after 1911 !! Dora became a Seventh Day Adventist - I might phone them one day to see if they have any records of her- they are not far from where I live The divorce record is at the PRO UK for David Christie MURRAY and his second wife ( his first wife died)...you will also find quite a bit in the newspapers about his ' bankruptcy' I will try to get back to this later- am a bit busy right now Bye for now Jocelyn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
