Hi Vee, You could try contacting Vic BMD’s adoption dept. With all your information, they should be able to tell you if there were any babies adopted out by that mother. Ailsa, thank you for the reply and information about death certificates, I feel you are probably right and thinking about it more, maybe the adoptions might have been assumed to have happened. It is hard to not believe that a death certificate would be anything but a true record. I'm appreciative of the thoughts from others too, these birth and death records were never known to close family so it was quite a shock and then with a rumor of adoption, just felt I needed some extra thoughts. Can only imagine the trauma experienced at such a time for the mother. Thank you very much to those who responded. Hi If you have been divorced for a long time and not remarried you can be a "widow" even if your husband is still alive. I don't know if this was in effect last century but according to Centrelink definately, nowadays you can. Hi Vee death certificates can only be issued once a undertaker/ Dr/ or someone of stance has sighted the deceased.
