My Glass family married into the Farquharson lines at Indego in Tarland. Andrew Farquharson and Jean Glass arrived in Sydney 1842. Andrew died on the voyage. They followed his brother, William Farquharson (1797) and his wife Jane Hay to Australia. William and Jane arrived here via the "Hero" in 1839. I can find Jane Farquharson/Hay dying in Victoria in 1874 but cannot locate the death of William. Ancestry trees have him dying in Tarland in 1853. Is anyone able to help with information regarding his return to Scotland or his death in Tarland. Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi I am wondering if anyone has access to Port Philip shipping records I am searching for an ancestor Frederick JONES b about 1832 in Shropshire according to his marriage in NSW in 1858. He disappears between 1862- 1865 at which time his wife remarries and I have not yet been able to find a death certificate. His marriage didn't give length of time in the colony or fathers name There is a possible Frederick JONES who arrived on the Fairlie 30 dec 1853 on findmypast there is also a possible Frederick JONES on the Hibernia 11 july 1852 but I can't see a reference to that on the victorian public records site I was hoping for some extra information on the immigration records and that one of these could be mine Thank you for any help Kerri Parker

There were/are a lot of farms just out of Wonthaggi. Mary Lillian Rose WINTLE's father was a miner. She appeared with her parents on the 1943 Wonthaggi Roll, occupation 'home duties'. Thomas WELSH was listed as a 'Farm Hand' living with his parents on the 1937 Wonthaggi Electoral Roll. Mary Lillian Rose WELSH and husband Thomas (Photographer) were listed as resident at Orrong (Melbourne) on the 1949 and 1954 Electoral Rolls. Olive GLENN and husband were also living at Orrong in 1949, not at the same address but a couple of streets away. In 1963 Thomas and 'Rose' WELSH were back in Wonthaggi, Thomas' occupation listed as 'nil'. Residence 123 Broome Crescent. In 1968 and 1972 'Rose', by then widowed, had no other 'WELSH' living with her at that same address. John Alan GLENN (possible son) was listed on the electoral rolls, with Olive, in 1963, 1968, 1972 and 1977. No Andrew GLENN listed at the same address. Did Thomas and Rose have any children? I will message you privately regarding a William George WELSH, as he may still be living. Anne Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This is certainly the family I am interested in. My grandfather was Joe & Eddie's youngest brother Robert (Bob). I also knew their sisters Jennie & Olive. My mother, Mary, was brought up by her aunt Olive who had no children of her own. As a small child I met Eddie & his wife Louie when they toured Europe in 1950s and their sons and respective wives on subsequent trips to UK when they stayed with my parents Mary & Harry Dyson. I knew very little about Joe & Lily Welsh's family but from a few old letters etc passed down to me from Olive & my mother I had pieced together the name of their twins Olive & Thomas. Olive Glenn used to write occasionally to her sisters in law Olive Suddes & Jennie Lamb and send photos of her daughter and her 2 children. In this correspondence there was often mention of a Rose Wintle whom you have confirmed was Thomas's wife. Were Thomas & Rose involved in farming as I have a photo showing Rose working with animals. Did they have any children? The only knowledge I have of John Alan Welsh is 2 photos of him as a baby with Joe & Lily but no indication of who his parents were. You seem to think he was Olive Glenn's son. I don't know whether that is correct or not but I have also seen mention of an Andrew Welsh who I thought was John Alan's brother. Do you have any knowledge of him?. Another mystery to me is a William George Welsh who along with Olive Glenn ( as descendants of Joe Welsh) inherited Joe's share of the estate of his sister Jennie Lamb when she died intestate in Dec 1975. If he was a son of Joe & Lily then he must have been born after they emigrated to Australia in Mar. 1926. Can you help with any of this? Author: maccormaic Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.oceania.australia.vic.general/11495/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello. I am trying to track down my great grand aunt Mary Anne Begley. She was born in Cooley Casey Co. Clare Ireland on 11 Feb 1870 (or 8th Feb 1870). Cooley Casey is a townland close to the town of Sixmilebridge Co. Clare. She emigrated to Australia and married there. She may have emigrated to Melbourne or to Perth? She probably married a man called Markham. She had a son John Markham (aka Jackie Markham) and he had three daughters, granddaughters of Mary Anne Begley. They are/were called Kathleen, Mary and Joan. One of these (don't know which one) came on a trip to Ireland years ago (don't know when, maybe it was the 1950s, 60s or 70s?) and met relatives here at the time, many of these in Ireland have now passed on. I know that at least one (possibly more) of the Markham cousins are late. I would really love to find them or find any other information. I found that a Mary Anne Begley. departed the UK on a ship bound for Melbourne in 1890. Is this the Mary Anne Begley my great grand aunt? I also found a John Aloysious Markham was born in Victoria in 1898 (mother's maidan name was Begley)...is this John Aloysious Markham the same as Jackie Markham son of Mary Anne? Finally I found that a John Aloysious Markham died in place called Sussex, Western Australia in 1975. Is this the same John Aloysious Markham born in Victoria in 1898? Is this Jackie Markham son of Mary Anne? Is Sussex, Western Australia part of the "Perth" link? Can anyone help? Thanks and God Bless from Ireland. xxx Donal Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
