Hello - can anyone point me in the right direction please. Apparently in "The Mount Alexander Mail" of Saturday August 30 1873, there is an item on page 3 about the Theatre Royal at Castlemaine. It advertises a "Grand Drama and Musical Event" for 3 nights of September 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I have had a look at the TROVE website and it does not appear that there are any of "The Mount Alexander Mail" newspapers available for that time period. Would anyone know where I might find them so that I could get a copy of this article in its entirety?? Thanks in advance, Beth

Sue, Thank you for the message, I have a lot of different spelling for Jane McGowen, McEwan is one of them. I did find some births in the NSW index but no Ellen. But then who is to know if they are the right family. I have found some family trees too, with different records. I have Ellen's burial, but nothing I can prove for the Jackson family so far. I am working away, maybe it will all fit in one day. Thank you again, Genie
Hi Genie, This looks likely for a marriage, are you certain of Jane's surname? I couldn't see any children registered in VIC including Ellen. Given the time frame between marriage and Ellen's birth I'd look in other states too. Purchasing the marriage certificate would confirm his marital status.
