He would have been in Australia not Scotland, yes his name would have been George Wilson as far as I know. There is a possibility Mary Jane's mother could have married and he'd have a different surname. I really don't know anything about the man if he exists, just what my aunt mentioned. On the birth registration David Cargill is 34, Mary Jane is 21 same age as when they married the year before, that almost makes the 1882 birth right for Mary Jane. I spent a lot of time, looking for the birth of Mary Jane in 1880, but not successful in Vic, only the 1882 one, that you suggested, however the mother was Mary, not Sarah.
