I Googled the address where David worked , came up with the Golden Gate Hotel. Established in 1853, the Golden Gate Hotel is an iconic pub in South Melbourne that offers bar, dining and function room facilities for you and your guests. I think your right I don't think those births you found are not right, they just don't click. Is it possible to look for a birth with just the mothers name? Mary Wilson might have married after Mary Jane was born, hard to say though. It might be in the next few years, she probably needed help raising her baby. Just a thought! I figure it must be on the Aussie side. My dad didn't know, he had to write his mother asking how to spell it. JAMES WILSON AITKEN below would be perfect, I'll keep him in mind, the others too. Fraser was my g-grandmothers maiden name, it carry's on down through the line, several have it as a middle name, it's a good clue when looking for family. Your a good sleuth if you found my aunt & uncle in 1963, I never heard what my uncle worked at. My aunt died in 1981, Victoria, my uncle went back to Scotland after she died. Apparently she never found anything for her mother, I'm going to ask my cousin, what she thought was nothing might be important to me. Where would a person who lived in Carlton most likely be buried? Yes that's my family. I have the same information for outward passengers, I noticed Mary Jane's age of 27, I thought it might be mistranscribed, should be 21. On the actual passenger list no ages are given so I can't compare. They got on in Melbourne and off in London. The copy of the marriage registration I sent to Australia for has the year 1902, a copy of the actual marriage certificate that they took home has the year 1901. On the children's Scottish births 1901, Melbourne is the year and place given for the marriage. I think Mary Jane was under age and changed it to 21. I did get the birth for David Cargill B- 1902, no other issue are mentioned. He was born Woman's Hospital, Melbourne. I wish he had been born at home it might have different witness, maybe a relative. It did say Mary Jane was born in Carlton Victoria. I also finally found them in the 1911 census, not were I expected them to be. Mary Jane was 29, married 9 years, b- Australia, mother of 5 with 4 living. With that age it makes her born 1882. I think the one who died would be born between 1906 - 1910, there's a gap there. It was my aunt, my dad's youngest sister who went to Australia with her family in 1953, my 3 cousins are still there. I don't know why they went, there was no Cargill's there that I know of, no relatives at all. I did hear that she tried to find her mothers family with no luck. One of the cousins is coming here in June, although he was only 5 when they went I plan to question him to see what he knows. David and Mary Jane named the children after the Scottish naming pattern ...... loosely, they didn't quite stick with it. Mary Jane's death certificate has exactly the same information as her marriage cert, same father, same mother, same birth place, Carlton, the information was given by son David, I imagine he took the information from the marriage cert, I got a copy from David's son. I appreciate you taking a interest and trying to help, this is one tough lady to find. I often wonder what she didn't want people to know. She was educated, she wrote a nice letter. Her age is quite different to age on marriage certificate. VIC BDM Index has the marriage 1902, not 1901. If they married in Oct 1902, and baby David is born Nov 1902, this might be reason for her giving elevated age 21yrs....under 21 and she would need consent. You need to get the birth certificate for David b. 1902. This certificate would list previous issue and he might not be first child born to mother Mary. If he is born at a residential address this address might lead to close Wilson/Williams family? Do you see this family on 1911 census Scotland. What age does it have for Mary? Who is the CARGILL son or daughter who goes to Australia (where?) and might have WILSON aunts, uncles and first cousins ....if Mary has siblings? What names does Mary CARGILL nee WILSON give to her children....might suggest what level of connection she has to her parents, John and Sarah Ann, but both very ordinary names.
