As you can probably tell John ( Jack ) was my grandfather and the father of 7 Children however he was " persona non grata" with my father so I don't have much info on his parents or his life after he "left" my father's family. The people you refer to may well be his family however my grandmother ( Julia née O'Leary) did not speak of Jack or his family from the moment he left. Neither did my father. I didn't even know that he was living in Geelong until I found his Death Certificate. This is what makes family history so interesting. Hi Would someone who has access to the Victorian Digger CDs please do a look up for me? I am interested in a Craigie family, Thomas (25), wife Ann (23), and son John George (3) departed Liverpool 27/8/1855 on the “Parsee” and arrived in Melbourne 9th or 10th December 1855. His occupation is “shipwright” on the record (Victoria Assisted and Unassisted Passenger Lists). Going by his age, Thomas may have been born about 1830. I notice in the “Bendigo Advertiser” of 11/10/1856 in the “Missing Friends etc” column there is the following: “Thomas Craigie, Ship Parsee. Any information respecting him will oblige his wife. Address Post Office, Bendigo”. Perhaps Thomas deserted his wife. I notice in the Victorian Government Gazette there is a Thomas Craigie in a list of shareholders of the South Webster Freehold Gold Mining Company in Ballarat. The notice is dated 15/1/1868. There is also a Thomas Craigie who became the licensee of 38 acres of land at Runnymede on 1/1/1877. He died in 1881. Although I do not think he is the Thomas Craigie I am interested in, I would like to know the names of his parents. There is a marriage of a Thomas Craigie (aged 29 who is also a shipwright) to an Annie Lawrie at Wentworth in New South Wales on 3/9/1862 (I have the marriage certificate). Going by his age, Thomas may have been born about 1833. This couple had a son, also Thomas, at Wentworth on 19/11/1863 (I have the birth certificate). Then Thomas Craigie (Snr.) seems to have disappeared. Annie Craigie seems to have eventually formed a relationship with a George Kelly and they came to Queensland in the late 1860s. The surname of Thomas Craigie (Jnr.) appears to have eventually been changed to Kelly and he is my grandfather. I am trying to ascertain what happened to Thomas Craigie (Snr.). Was he the same Thomas who arrived on the “Parsee” in 1855? His parents on the marriage certificate to Annie Lawrie at Wentworth in 1862 were Thomas Craigie (ship owner) and Annie Randell. I note that a Captain Randell had one of the first paddleboats on the Murray River. So if someone could check out any Thomas Craigie on the Digger CD I would be grateful. Thank you Ian Kelly Sandstone Point Queensland
