I would be interested in how others save Ancestry record images to their computer and/or family history program in a streamlined manner. I am using the Snipping Tool but perhaps I could use it better or use another method. I don't use FTM as my family history program. Bill
Hi Bill, Besides the suggestions already given, you can save to a "specific" folder on your computer. You will have to have a specific folder ready or even create it? This can be one of the families you are researching? Go to download on in image and along the bottom of the screen you get the options of open, save and.... If you go to 'save' it will give you the option of 'save as' - you will then need to find the folder you have ready - click on it and the folder should open and then you can save... You can also change the file name while doing this. It might help if you need to search for it later? ;-) Cheers, Maree On 19/08/2018 3:21 pm, Bill Webster wrote: > I would be interested in how others save Ancestry record images to their > computer and/or family history program in a streamlined manner. Hi Bill, I am just a newbie to ancestry.com, but learning fast. I use all three methods, Ancestry has on offer. I save to my shoe box, for later, or save to my computer and it goes straight into my downloads for later or save to my tree to add verification to a persons record. It is easy to forget where you saw the record to save, if you dont put it some where. But I am not as clever as some, but happy with those three methods. regards Edie McArthur ------ Original Message ------ From: "Bill Webster" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, 19 Aug, 2018 At 3:21 PM Subject: [AUS-Tas] Saving records from Ancestry I would be interested in how others save Ancestry record images to their computer and/or family history program in a streamlined manner. I save the images to people in my Ancestry tree. While I experimented with saving possible records to my Ancestry shoe box, I wasn't satisfied with this as it is labour intensive trying to locate a person/record later on. Now I use a third -party program, "Snagit" which allows me to snip an image and record a caption under the image. It would be similar to your snipping tool. I save these Snagit images to Folders and sub folders, under main person's name. Hope this assists. Hi Bill A really good reference site is https://scantips.com/begin.html . I bought a copy of his book which was not expensive and has some really good tips.. I have a master media file backed up to cloud along with my family tree backups and I upload from my media file to my computer software which is Legacy Family Tree. This is user friendly and has many great features and is low cost. I also upload to Tribal Pages on line which I use for interested parties to look at for interest/information. I am considering changing this to having my own website using Gedsite software which is awesome. My master media files are filed in surname files and each file starts with a date so that they are naturally sorted in date order. The way that you label your files is important when retrieving them or if you want to know the origin. If you are interested in knowing how I do this contact me direct. Kind regards G.
