Is there anywhere one can search to find out about mining accidents 1876-1886 in Queenstown. I have tried TROVE without much success. Cheers Lyn VIC
Hi Lyn There is Tas Archives of course - not readily accessible to you, but you could trawl their catalogue to see what turns up: http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/default.aspx?search=1 Re you looking for anything in particular? I have a few west coast books I could check for various things if you let us know. The west coast newspaper Zeehan and Dundas Herald only operated from 1890-1922, unfortunately. Thank you for your reply Malcolm, I am looking for the death in a mining accident of John CHRISTIE in Queenstown between 1876-1886. Cheers Lyn VIC
Hi Lyn I thought we might get lucky and there would be an inquest: https://talis.ent.sirsidynix.net.au/client/en_AU/names/search/results?qu=chr istie&qf=NI_INDEX%09Record+type%09Inquests%09Inquests ... but no. There isn't even a death recorded: https://talis.ent.sirsidynix.net.au/client/en_AU/names/search/results?qu=chr istie&qf=NI_INDEX%09Record+type%09Deaths%09Deaths Doubt any of my books will help, but I'll check them tomorrow. Thank you for your time Malcolm. I have just been informed the information on his death is 'oral history'. Seeing I have looked and you also I would not waste any of your time looking for him. I shall go back to search for him in Victoria where he was married. Just a thought?. Qtown ,Tas did not become established until late 1800's, where Qtown NZ was a gold mining town from mid 1800's. Perhaps look there.
