    1. [AUS-Tas] Frederick Gillham - death at sea
    2. Ian Turnbull
    3. I have searched and found that on 8th November 1875 the above man died at sea on the vessel Nineveh which became one of the vessels owned by the Australian government as the white Star line. Descendants of Frederick believed that he went to Australia but the records do not indicate that this happened. I have investigated a trip by Nineveh about that time which did come to Australia and there was an outbreak of chicken pox and a number of children died and the vessel was quarantined. However the only deaths were recorded were children and one woman. I have wondered if he was a merchant seaman and this is why his death is not mentioned in the records about the passengers? I also wonder as to what happened to his body as the records do not state anything. Was he buried at sea or was his body returned to England and to his wife and family. How can I determine the answers to these questions? Anyone who is happy to help me get some answers please let me know and I can send you what I have off line, Ian Turnbull
