    3. Hi List, My query is about a place known as "Long Plains" in Northern Tasmania. Where was it in 1843? What was it in 1843? The words "Long Plains" are written at the top of an 1843 census return for Parish No. 8 in the West Tamar. (CEN 1/69/54) I have done some searching, and I have found a Long Plains Road that runs from the Frankford Highway to Bridgenorth, inland from Exeter. (I have also found references to a 1200-acre property called "Long Plain" near Deloraine which was for sale in 1840/1841, but that seems to be well out of the way, so I'm discounting it.) Assuming the Long Plains Road reference is somewhere near the mark, does anyone know of a building which currently or formerly existed in this area, which might have engaged the services of a highly-skilled stonemason for several years around 1842/3 ??? 3. Hi Douglas William Dawson Grubb had some land granted in that vicinity. If anyone could afford a skilled stonemason, it would be WDG. It’s the Parish of St Michael’s, Devon. https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__search.archives.tas.gov.au_default.aspx-3Fdetail-3D1-26type-3DI-26id-3DAF396_1_625&d=DwIFaQ&c=kKqjBR9KKWaWpMhASkPbOg&r=i_LQs9DbVPyA1d4XXLxKbzvIFyFXVQXpPud-TuD7xxs&m=NINAG9VjjqhXeXR7bRgQYfvofbliEeV39ryc1bx-N3M&s=t6qK5CXJlpdu0KC5mTC4ELLMiRWAUjbaOaHumI1DTuY&e= I’ve been researching Daniel and Patrick Spillane, who bought land on Long Plains road, but not until the 1860s. 3. Interesting, Further to my initial query, at the suggestion of List Mum Meryl I had a look at the historical land charts for the area (something which I should have done in the first place). I see that a William HILL purchased 640 acres of land fronting directly onto the eastern side of Long Plains Road in the West Tamar. Who would this William Hill have been? Probably not the William Hill of "Williamwood" near Ross, but quite possibly his nephew, son of his brother John Hill. Which is interesting indeed, since the "skilled stonemason" in question was James Colbeck, who worked on the Ross Bridge.
