Dear Meryl and Peter, Many many thanks for finding elusive Mrs. Maria Clayton of Gladstone. From the Articles you've found, whether there was a Christian name transcription error or not, our Maria was born in 1842 in London, not 1819 Leeds. She had three sons initially, two found in adulthood in Australia.... all having been born in Heathcote Victoria. This Mrs. Clayton of Gladstone seems to have been reported as a resident of Tasmania and previously NZ for some years with her son as Informant. I think I must let this Mrs. Clayton go and keep looking for our poor Maria......
