Hi Peter, Tasmanian Archives, Departures Index - Francis NEWENHOFF, steerage passenger onboard "Eliza Ann" departed 17 October 1846 from Hobart to Sydney (Ref CUS36/1/171) - http://portal.archives.tas.gov.au/menu.aspx?search=2 I couldn't find anything more for him in NSW, Queensland or New Zealand (NEWENOFF, NEWENHOFF, NEWINHOFF). Maybe he worked as crew onboard a ship and went home? Or changed his name and remained in the Colony? The names of his parents might be useful in searching for his Christian name only and his parents if he has changed surname. The NSW Mailing List might be able to direct you further - http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/AUS/AUS-NSW.html Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > Born in Devon UK in 1803, he was transported for 14 years to Tasmania on > York 1 in 1829. > In 1844 he re-offended and had 2 years added to his sentence “sent to > Glenorchy Roads”. I have seen his convict records and “Troved” several > variations of his surname (which is probably Dutch), but it all seems to > stop around 1844 ,apart from a note to say he was “free” in 1849. > Peter
