Hi I am seeking information about Lilian Bird. She was born 9 October 1880 , daughter of Albert Edward Bird and Alice Walmsley. In 1884, after death of her mother (Sept 1883) and jailing of her father for non payment of carer's moneys, Lilian's sister's Sarah (born 1872) and Florence/Florrie (born 1874) were placed in the Launceston Industrial School for Girls where they remained until aged 16. Lilian's brother William (my grandfather-born in 1876) was "fostered" by Thomas and Rosa Ann Hughes. There was extensive newspaper coverage of the court case when these decisions were made. I would like to know what happened to Lilian. Is there any where I can obtain records as to where she was placed? She was next heard of in Newcastle NSW where she was in a Convent in mid 1890s. (Her mother came from Newcastle). She later married Charles Sproule. Also I would like to know if there a possibility of finding out where William Bird went to school in Launceston. (William and Florence's photos are in Launceston Family Album). Any assistance in filling in these gaps would be greatly appreciated. regards John Bird
