Hi Listers, I am coming to Hobart next week and hope to find out if the Robert MASON who owned 2 houses in Green Ponds, in the census 1842, is the convict on the Malabar 1821. He had 3 daughters with a Susan/Sussanna, Sarah, Emma Smith 1824 and Lucy 1826. He dissolved a partnership with John HOPKINS in the Hobart newspaper April 1841. John HOPKINS and his wife were the witnesses at Lucy's wedding Sept 1840, she was only 14yrs and pregnant, could that be the reason for break up of partnership? There is a death 29-8-1848 of Sarah MASON, would the cert tell me anything about her father? Two deaths of Robert MASON don't match with the convict age, and would the cert say he was a convict, or that he came to the colony on the Malabar? Would the Lands Office records of the homes in Green Ponds tell me anything that could help? Would there be records of partnerships that I could see? Can you suggest any other way I could find further information? Whew! Big ask I realise. Noela from Melbourne.
