Hello I was sent this today from man named Alan [I think in Canada] Anyway Alan was going through the UK Regimental & service records? and found this on Samuel NELSON Samuel Nelson was not Irish at all he was Scottish It did not say this on his records it says it on his arrest papers for Desertion It was other researchers that said that he was Irish and I knew they were wrong For one thing he age never added up I am sending this so it will go in the lists rootsweb archives for other researchers to find and for the Convict gathers to add to his page online Army Deserters 1828-1840 Transcription First name(s): Samuel Last name: NELSON Age years: 21 years Birth year: 1815 Birth parish: Birth town: Maybole Birth county: Ayrshire Birth country: Scotland Corps: 8th Foot Year: 1836 Day: 16 Month: July Summary: 8th Foot; 21; Maybole; Ayr; * Servant; 16 Jul 1836 Record set: Army Deserters 1828-1840 Category: Armed forces & conflict Record collection: Regimental & service records Collections: United Kingdom *Servant mean he was a 'servant' when he joined at the age of 16 years in 1836. I am on Scotlandspeople web site and have a few credits so I am going to see if I can find his birth.
