There was a child born in Launceston to Ellen SMITH and Henry TURNER on 28/10/1870 in Launceston and in the records she is named Frances Mary SMITH and was brought up as the daughter of Francis Thomas KEY and Ellen SMITH. Mercy Ellen (Helen) Maria KEY was born 13/7/1872 in Launceston to F T and E KEY. Their next 6 children were born in Seymour, Victoria. One of them is my Grandmother Dora Jane KEY. BENBOW is the maiden name of my Great grand fathers mother. I have not ruled out the possibility of Ellen SMITH being of convict heritage at this stage. I am still interested to hear if the Church records or Baptismal records mentioned in my earlier email are available anywhere in Tasmania. Hi Laurie, The closest individual I could find in Launceston C of E baptism registers that might be Ellen Smith was at Holy Trinity, Launceston. An Eleanor Smith was baptised on the 17 March 1850 (born 22 Sept 1849) to a William and Mary Smith of Launceston. Father was a labourer.
