    1. [AUS-Tas] A little mystery

    3. Hi An old farming property near Campbell Town has a birdbath in the garden which has on the base "George Rodham Home Sams 17/5/1886 - 26/11/1888". It is a little curious. I have found his death registration and the inquest report online which show he died in Deloraine after accidentally drinking carbolic acid but not who his parents were. Richard Horace Sams, born in Westbury in 1864 to William George Gardiner Sams and Sarah Rose Archer, married the great niece of Hugh Murray, the original land grantee where the birdbath was found but I can't see a connection. Would be grateful for any suggestions, as the owners would like to know the history. Regards Andrew

    3. Hi Andrew, A search of Trove turned up a report on the inquest in the Launceston Examiner, 28 November 1888, p. 2. This report gives the name of young George's father as William Thomas SAMS. A further quick & dirty check of the Colonial Family Links database gives William Thomas SAMS as a son of William George Gardiner SAMS and Sarah Rose formerly ARCHER. Richard Horace SAMS was therefore an uncle to young George.
