    3. Hi Elaine, According to the birth registration of Mary Ann Bailey in 1845, the family was living at Lyttleton Street, Launceston - http://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD33-1-23-p793j2k. Consulting the census for 1848 we have a John Bailey record as living at Lyttleton Street - http://stors.tas.gov.au/CEN1-1-95-194 It appears there were two married couples living at this address but both the married males are recorded as "other free persons". So I think your John Bailey was an ex-convict. Though he said he was free in his "Permissions to Marry" Sarah Diver in 1843 it was in the sense that he had become "free by servitude" from his transportation sentence. Could possibly be this man who was born circa 1805 and was a Stone Cutter (your John was stone mason) - http://foundersandsurvivors.org/pubsearch/convict/chain/c31a31050249 Cheers, Peter On Fri, Nov 21, 2014 at 9:04 PM, Elaine Jefferson via < aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com> wrote: > Hi once again, This time I am in need of help if anyone can find info > on the following person > > John Bailey born some where in this world arrived either Hobart or > Launceston aboard the Emma Eugenia but which voyage? 3. I note that this John Bailey per Atlas is in departures 1851 and 1852. Looks a though he took a couple of trips between Launceston and Victoria. I think these trips were for one that many people did in that period. Going to the gold fields in Victoria to seek their fortunes !!.
