All the records that I have accessed such as Naturalization state that my GG grandfather arrived in Australia in 1857 on board the whaler "James Arnold". Advice from the Whaling Museum in New Bedford in the USA is that the only place that this vessel called in Australia during 1857 was at Port Davey in Tasmania. Would there have been any port authority in Port Davey at that time who may have collected details of crew and other matters pertaining to vessels arriving in port please? Cheers Peter Melbourne
