I'm hoping someone can check the indexes of HRA volumes for HITE, HEIGHT, HIATT, HYATT, HYETT or AYLETT names - towards potential clues = seeking the to date non existent THOMAS HITE. *Ann HITE* married *William AYLETT* *31 August 1858* [TBC] *where *? My husbands mother was a Hite. There have been lots of rumers about an aboriginal woman in the family but I think half of the family dispute this. Years ago I did see a photo. Showing the aboriginal woman sitting on a chair and a white man standing behind her. I cant remember where the photo went to. It didnt seem relevant at the time Regards Deb Also there seems to have been AYLETT and HITE family not only spread out across far NW Tasmania - but also around Latrobe, Sherwood, across to Deloraine - which is also the region in which the family of Aboriginal matriarch Dalrymple Johnson [nee Briggs] resided and continue to live... Plus Dalrymple and Thomas JOHNSON were in PERTH in the late 1830s to mid 1840s also having children = near where and when the HITE's were also having some of their children/baptisms - so this overlap is worth considering re: whether Ann and William are somehow connected to the Johnson's = ** check all baptism / marraige records for any family overlaps with witnesses. .... As well - there is the unsubstantiated and unlikely claim that Mary Briggs [ buried as Margaret Briggs ] sister of Dalrymple nee BRIGGS was the mother of Ann HITE - Ddubious also because William HITE was born/baptised in 1844 5 years after Mary/Margaret BRIGGS died - so how can he also be Aboriginal within the same history ? Where/when did the family first speak about knowledge of the name of Margaret BRIGGS [believed to have not had any children] as the HITE Aboriginal ancestor ? This is a link to the Oct 2002 Tribunal outcome about Aboriginality that has more information about the ruling that the HITE Aboriginality could not then be disproven: https://s3.amazonaws.com/s3.documentcloud.org/documents/1286240/administrative-appeals-tribunal-reasons-for.pdf Julie On 11 September 2014 18:40, Douglas <douglas@burbury.net> wrote: > Hi Julie, > > I was hoping particularly that you'd reply! :) > > The published TAHO comment states that they checked Plomley for any > reference to Thomas HITE (presumably including spelling variants) and > turned up nothing.
