Hi folks, Thanks for all the wonderful information about the connections to Ann Hite etc. My interest in this line is through my mother who was the 7th child of William Gower - descended from Dolly Dalrymple- and adopted by Lill's cousin James J Stroud and his wife Sarah in New Zealand in 1939. William and his brother headed off to NZ, when gold was discovered in Otago around 1917/18 There William began working for my maternal great grandfather, Edmund (Ned) Oxenbridge who's family had a gold claim on the Shotover River, at Queenstown. He also owned a brickworks in Invercargill.NZ. William took a 'shine' to Ned Oxenbridge's daughter, Lillian. They married and had six children but Lill died within hours of the birth of their last child's birth. William's mother offered to support her son and assist with raising his children. James and Sarah Stroud adopted the baby and raised her in Invercargill and later in Dunedin.NZ. Mum was over-joyed when a cousin in NZ helped to discover her remaining siblings and she was even more excited when she had a chance to visit them in Launceston in the mid 1960s. BTW If there are other descendants of William Gower and Ada Lillian Oxenbridge on this list will they please contact me off-list ... I'm the last of my part of this family line...so would be thrilled to contact any others. Cheers Ainslie Ainslie.
