Hi Carol, Just a follow up on my previous email. I did a bit of googling, and there are many websites that confirm that civil registrations began in Victoria in 1853, including the Registry's website. Some even confirm the actual date as 1st July. I also have an ancestor who died just prior to 1-7-1853, and have not been able to find anything about him, not even a newspaper entry or a burial. Chris.
