    3. Thanks for the spate of messages relating to who's who in the Tasmanian aboriginal history 'legends' of late. Many of us have documentary evidence of our family history going back to an era where aboriginal liaisons with white whalers/sealers, convicts and settlers to VDL were quite common. To come out with a blanket statement that it's 99% non factual doesn't necessarily apply to stories others on this list have in their possession. Frankly I find it extremely interesting that such a high pecentage of the current population is accepting of the fact we are a country of mixed-races and no longer ashamed to declare that many of our forebears were a mix of non-European and Tasmanian/Australian native bloodlines. In the 1960s I worked in Wellington NZ for two or three years in my early 20s and I shared a house with a bunch of workmates. The ground floor apartment was rented by a very nice young man of Maori background who also worked in the same Government Dept. We'd occasionally walk around the block in the summer evenings. I well recall the look of disgust on the faces of two middle aged women approaching from the opposite direction as they approached my friend and I walking side by side along the footpath. The only obvious reason for their 'display' was the 'colour' difference between the two of us. Neither of us reacted to their attitude (but we were tempted!) Thank goodness the great majority of the population has risen above such attitudes in this day and age! and I trust I haven't opened a can of worms about racial differences! Cheers Ainslie.
