    3. Hi Jill, My ggg-grandfather fought against Napoleon before his regiment were sent to Canada to fight in the American War 1812-1815; he was tried for desertion in 1813 at St John's in Newfoundland and sentenced to Death, subsequently returned to Horse Guards in London where the King showed mercy due to his exemplary record, and sentenced to Life beyond the seas in 1816. St John's, Newfoundland - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._John%27s,_Newfoundland_and_Labrador There is also St John's in New Brunswick - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_John,_New_Brunswick I don't think there was any infantry there until later in the 1800s, but if you find the regiment number of the man you are looking for, it may help to place his whereabouts - http://peter.mackenzie.org/history/hist53A.htm http://peter.mackenzie.org/history/hist53B.htm Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > Good morning I have a convict who was tired in the 'St John’s Court > Martial > Can anyone please tell me where this was > I am guessing he was an army man to have been court-martialled > Jill
