    3. Hi, Not sure if this is of any help with your query but my Tassie ancestors went off to Invercargill (and then on to Queenstown) when gold was discovered in Otago (NZ) I know that my grandfather, William Gower, returned to Tasmania in 1919/20 after the death (in childbirth) of his wife Lillian nee Oxenbridge which left him with a newborn baby (my mother) who was adopted by relatives in Queenstown and six young children. He returned to Tasmania from Bluff via Melbourne and then sailed on to Launceston, Tasmania. I was sent a newspaper report of the ship's foundering on rocks near the entrance to Port Melbourne in early 1920. Cheers, Ainslie.
