“WORLD WAR 1 – Tasmanian Stories” is the title of the biennial conference of the George Town & District Historical Society Inc. to be held on SUNDAY, 9 November 2014, starting at 9am. There will be 9 speakers on varied topics: The Western Front; the 52nd Battalion; Conscription Debate; Aust. Light Horse; First Aust. Action in New Guinea; Aust. Army Nurses; Lefroy Memorial Avenue; Westbury’s Searle brothers and Pte WL Baxter of Pipers River. A modest fee covers Lunch and morning and afternoon tea.
