Dear All, In my previous message in response to Malcolm's email regarding the Colonial Links site I wrote that I was astonished by the way the AOT allowed mistakes in the Colonial Links site to be "perpetrated" - I meant to write "perpeptuated". But maybe they are both pertinent and relevant terms, now I come to think of it! On a lighter note, I feel that the convict Louis Cohen per Lonach had the right idea about the way I feel about this topic. At Port Arthur on January 21 1834 he was accused of "Obstinately persisting in making a disturbance in the belly while under sentence for a previous offence" and the poor soul was give a sentence of "7 days solitary confinement on bread and water in addition to his former sentence." (I had to use this gem somewhere after I stumbled across it recently, and where better?) Sorry Meryl for my levity. Carol Brill.
Carol and all, Carol wrote At Port Arthur on January 21 1834 he was accused of "Obstinately persisting in making a disturbance in the belly while under sentence for a previous offence" and the poor soul was give a sentence of "7 days solitary confinement on bread and water in addition to his former sentence." (I had to use this gem somewhere after I stumbled across it recently, and where better?) It is these little gems we discover by accident that gives life to our research. I wonder what the poor fellow was fed to give him "a disturbance in the belly" while under sentence? Hopefully bread and water cured his complaint <smile>. Patricia
