    3. Sorry Carol, Forgot to sign the email below. And, I just realised, it was not John Jibb that Tom Davey wrote a letter on behalf of. Cheers, Wynnette. -----Original Message----- From: Graeme & Wynnette Ford [mailto:graemeford.1@bigpond.com] Sent: Thursday, 5 June 2014 2:56 PM To: 'Carol Brill'; 'AUS-TASMANIA@rootsweb.com' Subject: RE: [AUS-Tas] John Jibbs/Jibb/Jebb Carol, I am not sure you are going to find many records for John JIBB at this early date. My 14 year old William BYRNE/S, BURNS who arrived in Sydney in 1826, only has a "Muster Roll of male convicts arrived in Sydney Cove on Saturday the 18th February, 1826." Etc. It is like a "mini" indent. It is one line only. The only other place I have ever found him, is in a muster roll. And a couple of "possible" sightings in newspaper article. Like you, I have no death, for either him or his wife. Too many people of the same name to pin him down, in my case. It has most of the information you would normally get at the top of an indent. Offence, where convicted, physical description and occupation. Have you seen these? Oh, have a feeling that at least one of these has already been sent to you. http://www.convictrecords.com.au/convicts/jibb/john/122505 http://microsites.lincolnshire.gov.uk/ConvictsDetails.aspx?convict_id=3012 AH! I just found these in Trove. http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article4210310 Hobart Town Courier, 20 Feb, 1830. http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article4210310 More or less a repeat of the previous article. He stole 8 Bushels of wheat from his master Mr. Richard Troy. He was sentenced to 7 yrs Transportation. There has to be a record of that "somewhere". You say that a Tom Davey wrote to Macquarie, asking permission for him to stay. Might he have been assigned as a servant and came to Tas with his Master - perhaps Mr Troy? There are 32 entries for Richard Troy in Trove, but seemingly for two distinct people. One a convict, one a landowner. -----Original Message----- From: aus-tasmania-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-tasmania-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Carol Brill Sent: Thursday, 5 June 2014 12:10 PM To: 'symonds3'; 'AUS-TASMANIA' Subject: Re: [AUS-Tas] John Jibbs/Jibb/Jebb Hi Trish, Thanks for searching so far and wide for this elusive man - I only checked Tas. and NSW for his death, like, you to no avail. I will contact the Bathurst Family History Group - they may be able to help. I'm fairly sure the man in Tas. in 1830 and 1831 is the same man - there don't seem to be any other convicts anywhere of that name during this ----- No virus found in this message.
