Hi Robin A search of the AWM site reveals very little except photos, portraits and a modern-day war film that makes reference to the massacre at Banka Island; and Trove reveals little more. However, there is a reference on Trove to a memorial to Vivian Bullwinkel in the Soldier's Chapel in St George's Cathedral in Perth that provides a little more info: http://trove.nla.gov.au/work/151765148?q=+Vivian+bullwinkle <http://trove.nla.gov.au/work/151765148?q=+Vivian+bullwinkle&l-availability= y&l-australian=y&c=picture&versionId=165428334> &l-availability=y&l-australian=y&c=picture&versionId=165428334 It says: Memorial Plaque commemorates Vivian Statham (nee Bullwinkle), the sole survivor of Banka Island massacre in World War Two. Vivian Bullwinkel-Statham AO, MBE, ARRC, ED (18 December 1915 - 3 July 2000) was an Australian Army nurse during the Second World War. She was the sole survivor of the Banka Island Massacre, when the Japanese killed 21 of her fellow nurses on Radji Beach, Bangka Island (Indonesia) on 16 February 1942. Vivian retired from the army in 1947 and became Director of Nursing at the Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital. She devoted herself to the nursing profession and to honouring those killed on Banka Island, raising funds for a nursesand#39; memorial and serving on numerous committees, including a period as a member of the Council of the Australian War Memorial, and later president of the Australian College of Nursing. If you get the spelling correct on the AWM site (BULLWINKEL) the search engine comes up with lots of photos, but only one document - her private papers (diaries etc), which are seemingly not open to the public. I have some books on wartime nursing history, and will have a look later in the day (have to duck out now). Cheers Karen Groeneveld Queanbeyan NSW
