Hi all, I am looking for a little bit of information if anyone is attached to any of the above people. Frances Crew was a convict, arr. per Lady of the Lake, 1829. She married Thomas Terry in Hobart in 1834, and he died in Launceston in 1852. I have found 3 children George c 1832 (not reg) and Elizabeth Emma & Hannah. There may have been others, and would like to know of these. Fanny then married John Hammond in Launceston in 1855. There don't appear to be any issue of this marriage, (she was about 46, so not surprising) Frances/Fanny was found guilty of vagrancy in Launceston 21/8/1874 and received 2 months with hard labour, however she died the next day. John Hammond married Emma Terry in 1880. They already had 3-4 children by this time. My queries are: what was the connection between Emma Terry and John Hammond's first wife, if any? Or am I wrong to be thinking they married the same J ohn Hammond? I can find no birth for an Emma Terry, c 1853, also known on one occasion as Emily. I don't need any other information as I have the relevant BDMs as mentioned above, cheers Sally
Hi Sally, Just dug around a bit and can't really answer your query but might offer a couple of points. Thomas and Fanny are in the 1848 census as living at Margaret Street in Launceston. There are 2 boys and a girl listed as living at that address. Since their daughter Hannah died in 1845 it leaves an unknown male child, so possibly another son. Just to pinpoint the John Hammond your looking at - in his obit from 1883 he was from "Cheshire, England". Pretty sure he was the convict per "Maya", transported with his brothers Thomas and George. All from Knutsford, Cheshire. http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/ImageViewer/image_ viewer.htm?CON33-1-79,204,66,L,80 Could the Emily Terry you are looking for, be the Elizabeth Emma Terry baptised 14 April 1854 to John Vincent and Ellen Terry - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1971-35349-22410-49?cc=2125029&wc=M7HL-BM9:387523601,387523602,387527201 Perhaps her death certificate from 1923 as Emma Austin, buried Carr villa 12/7/1923 might hold a clue ??
