Hi Carol, Are you aware that by getting a library card from the National Library of Australia, free via their website, you can access the British Newspaper Archive for free? Just go to nla.gov.au select eresources and at the top of the page is a link to order a library card. It takes a few days for the card to arrive in the mail then you can access any of the eresources from your home computer. I and at least one other person on their Facebook page are both unable to subscribe, either for a month or annually. So frustrating, so many emails back and forth, but no luck. I've seen so many articles already that I'd love read in full. I've given up for today and have asked for an email when everything is up and running properly again. It reminds me just how lucky we are here with the NLA and Trove! Theirs is no where near as good as Trove and it costs about $140 for a years'subscription - senior pensioners like me will find that a bit steep, but I've decided that it will give me a year's pleasure, when and if I CAN subscribe! I'm already a member of the NLA and have access to their e-resources, including the Gale Group's British Newspapers, which are great, but there are dozens more newspapers on this site - it seems terrific in that respect! Best wishes, Carol Brill. -----Original Message----- From: Susan Geason [mailto:susan@susangeason.com] Sent: Friday, 30 May 2014 3:50 PM To: aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-Tas] BRITISH NEWSPAPERS I suppose all you cognoscenti know that the British Newspapers Archive is a gold mine and has expanded greatly? Hi Karlena, I already have a library card from the NLA and it's great, but there seem to be heaps more newspapers on the British Newspaper Archives site. It looks brilliant, but now not only can I not purchase a subscription, I can't even search for the snippet views I could look at free yesterday. This is after a stack of emails back and forth when I've changed my password, cleared my cache, done this, done that! They don't seem to think the problem is at their end, when a number of others are writing about the same problems as me on their Facebook page. So different to the NLA who rush to fix things as soon as possible, from my experience. And so frustrating, as I've found some wonderful snippets and can't read the articles in full until I subscribe. I have dozens of convicts in my extended family so I love the coverage of small regional towns the British Newspaper Archives gives - I've found much more on the few people I had a chance to check yesterday than I could find among the NLA's wonderful e-resources. Best wishes, Carol. -----Original Message----- From: Karlena Nagle [mailto:karltas@live.com.au] Sent: Tuesday, 3 June 2014 2:17 PM To: 'Carol Brill'; 'Susan Geason'; aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [AUS-Tas] BRITISH NEWSPAPERS Hi Carol, Are you aware that by getting a library card from the National Library of Australia, free via their website, you can access the British Newspaper Archive for free?
