    3. Hi List, A long shot request coming up ......... Is anyone researching the convict John Golder, a shoemaker & tanner by trade, who was assigned to Samuel Horton in December 1825? I have some transcriptions of correspondence dealing with a charge against Golder for disobedience, dating from November 1826; the correspondence then goes on to detail a bun-fight which took place between Benjamin Horne and Samuel Horton over the handling of the case. The first letter in the correspondence is from Benjamin Horne and is dated 11th October, 1826. The opening line is: "Sir, I have received your letter and beg to inform you that whatever may be your opinion of Golder's behaviour I shall take the liberty of judging for myself and I shall not succumb to any impertinent interference in the discharge of my magisterial duties." Unfortunately the source for these transcriptions is not mentioned. I'm guessing by the look of the content that it comes from a file in the Colonial Secretary's Office correspondence, as there are some letters written by Samuel Horton addressed to the Lieut Governor. If anyone recognises the correspondence and can let me know the source, I would be grateful. Douglas

    3. Hi Douglas, Probably comes from CSO3 index - "Golder J., 47 Complaining to S Horton". Cross references to "Horton Samuel, 47 complaining of (dispute with) Mr Horne ??(undecipherable} as Magistrate" File would no 47 from CSO/1/3 - http://search.archives.tas.gov.au/default.aspx?detail=1&type=I&id=CSO1/1/3 Cheers, Peter On Mon, Oct 6, 2014 at 5:17 PM, Douglas via <aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com> wrote: > Hi List, > > A long shot request coming up ......... > > Is anyone researching the convict John Golder, a shoemaker & tanner by > trade, who was assigned to Samuel Horton in December 1825? > > I have some transcriptions of correspondence dealing with a charge > against Golder for disobedience, dating from November 1826; the > correspondence then goes on to detail a bun-fight which took place > between Benjamin Horne and Samuel Horton over the handling of the case. > > The first letter in the correspondence is from Benjamin Horne and is > dated 11th October, 1826.
