Dear Jan, Jane Parsons may be the daughter of Richard and Susannah Eleanor (Wrackmore) Parsons born 1872 at Campbell Town. http://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD33-1-50p529j2k Twin sister Rose? This couple seem to have had an large family at Campbell Town through the 1850-60s. Jane's death notice in the Advocate 16 Oct. 1956 reads - Parsons - On Oct 15, at the residence of William A. Williams. at Motagu, Jane, beloved mother of Jean. Aged 85. So Jane's death age matches pretty well with that child born in 1872. There are no other children or a spouse listed in the death notice so Jean appears to have been her only child. I cannot find the birth certificate that supposedly says Jean Agnes Parsons was born at Campbell Town on the 3 June 1893. Suspect this may be an unsourced reference? Jane Parsons appears in the electoral rolls 1914 at Bedford St, Campbell Town,1936-1954 as just living at Montagu (Circular Head). Though there are other Parsons in the area no male presence seems to match her address. Her daughter and son in law, Jean and William appear at Montagu as well so its probable she was living with them. Between 1928 -1936 on the electoral rolls her daughter is Jean Agnes Harcus Williams. She goes back to Jean Agnes from 1937-1954. Likely Jeans' birth was illegitimate. Could the Harcus name she used have been her fathers surname? The only document that might confirm both her parents identities would be her marriage certificate from 1919. Update to earlier email. An illegitimate, unnamed female was born to a Rose parsons at Campbell town in 1892 # 257, and the informant was Jane Parsons, Aunt - http://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD33-1-73p276j2k Rose Parsons married James Henderson Hayward in 1894 - http://stors.tas.gov.au/RGD33-1-73p276j2k Seems that the likely course of events was that Jane took her sister's illegitimate child and raised her as her own?
