    3. Thanks Peter and Jessie and Rhonda The family I suspect my John Close belongs to is Thomas Close and Ann Gutteridge/Guthrie - they had 9 children of which 3 had unregistered births and one registered but unnamed male born 10/10/1856. The only information I have for John's year of birth comes from his marriage certificate and death certificate which put him born either 1858 or 1861 in Deloraine. So the unnamed male born 1856 and registered by Thomas Close of High Plain, which I have determined is about a mile north of Deloraine is looking good! Would anyone know what C of E churches were in Deloraine at that time and if and where surviving registers would be! 3. Hi Trish, I had a quick look at the Westbury C of E baptism register based on the fact that the the children's births were registered in Westbury rather than Deloraine. It was only a glance but I did see a Thomas baptised to Thomas and Ann Close then a big shock !!... Twenty pages of the register had been cut out covering the period 1854-1877. There is a note in the register just before it picks up again. It went something like "This book was left in the vestry while the church was being repaired and damaged by persons unknown." If the Closes were regular worshipers at that church and the unknown boy child of 1856 was baptised there the info is long gone. If I get the opportunity again I'll review the microfilm more closely to see if Sarah Close was there for 1849. As I say it was a very quick scan of the microfilm... 3. Hi Peter >From information passed on to me Thomas' baptism has his father living in Hagley at the time. Deloraine births were registered in Westbury up to the end of October 1856 and from the 1st of November 1856 registered under Deloraine! By the time the unnamed boy was born on 10/10/1856 Thomas is residing at High Plains. On trove in April 1856 Thomas is listed on the Electoral roll for Deloraine as residing at Drumreigh (Drumreagh) as a lease holder, the leasor being J Munce. Drumreigh and High Plains were possibly on the same land grant to Samuel Munce about one mile north of Deloraine. So I am hoping that if all those pages are missing that they did attend a church in Deloraine - assuming there was one! Trish
