    3. Hi List, A few days ago I replied, saying one of my Nicholas ancestors was involved with what is now the Nant distillery. Until now I hadn't been able to revisit and restart my family history investigations, so I can only post this brief explanation My 5x maternal Great Grandparents were George Nicholas = Rebecca Watkins (Grosmont area, Wales) Of their three known sons, the oldest (George, born c1762) remained in Wales My 4x maternal GGp - the middle son, William born c1766 Wales came to VDL The youngest son, Edward born c1768 Wales, came to VDL aboard the /Grace/ in 1821 and it is through him that there are a number of locations and buildings in the Bothwell area associated with 'Nant', reflecting the the family's Welsh heritage. If I recall, it was Edward who built the Nant mill, now the distillery. My 3x GGp is George, son of William, and nephew of Edward. I think George became associated mainly with New Norfolk. Several of my separate ancestral 'lines' had arrived in VDL quite early in the 1800s, so I'll dust off my files and do a roll call soon. Helen
