Hi All, Seeking birth and death for ALFRED ALLEN. Have not been able to find any more detail about him apart from he married Selina Martin Quinn (1915-2000), he died before 2000 and he is not buried with Selina at Carr Villa. Selina was born on the East Coast - parents Reuben Quinn & Clara Bellenger. Have tried Trove, Archives index and various cemeteries, ancestry electoral rolls. Can't seem to find Selina either in Electoral roll. Any help greatly appreciated. Regards Robert
Hi Robert, He served in WW2 and he has service record but unfortunately it hasn't been digitised. Index does give a date of birth as 09 Apr 1919 place: Launceston. Next of kin listed as Sylvia Allen - https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/DetailsReports/ItemDetail.aspx?Barcode=6499989&isAv=N Cheers, Peter On Thu, Apr 11, 2019 at 6:57 PM Robert Bellenger <rbellenger307@gmail.com> wrote: > Hi All, > > Seeking birth and death for ALFRED ALLEN. Hi Bob, I think that Alfred Allen is buried in the Ross Catholic Cemetery with his wife, Audrey. Died in 1991. Burial plague says born 1902. Photo of grave can be found on Billions of Graves, search for Ross Catholic and Allen surname. The cremation info for Alfred Clifton Allen lists his wife Selina in details so has to be your man. Yes Peter, you are right. The Alfred Allen at Ross, and Audrey Emily Allen, also at Ross, are still on the elector's roll in 1972. This being after Alfred Clifton Allen died. Ironically, this Alfred Allen was a Butcher's assistant in 1936, and Alfred Clifton Allen managed a Butchers shop in Launceston. But two different Alfred Allens. Robert Bellenger & Robert Poole (we are both Robert) however I mainly get called Bob. Good evening Peter and all, Some time ago I found a record of an unknown person buried with my great grandparents and I researched her for some time, trying unsuccessfully to find a connection with my family. Years later, whilst looking at the burial plans in the cemetery office, I found the parents of this person buried next to my great grandparents in an unmarked grave. I then guessed that prior to death, she obtained permission to be buried with my g-grandparents so as to be close to her parents. Could something similar have happened in the Allen/Jacobson puzzle? Regards, Marg Watson. Yes Peter, and Selina Martin Jacobson (Shop Assistant) is on the 1954 Electoral Roll at Youngtown along with Edith Annie Jacobson (Home Duties). Perhaps Selina married a Mr Jacobson who died and she then married Alfred Clifton Allen. Also, there is an Alfred Clifton Allen born about 1902 Kent, Greenwich, England. He is on the 1911 census as a 9 yr old grandson of Alfred 64 and Anna 62 Allen. Along with another grandson George Enos Allen 15 and a granddaughter Eva Maude Allen 5. Also there is Alfred and Anna's sons Alfred 35 and Robert 17. There are 2 daughters of Alfred and Anna as well, Ellen 26 and Ada 21. They were residing in 325 Upton Lane, Forest Gate, London, England. This will give you plenty to think about Robert, happy hunting. Bob. -----Original Message----- From: Peter Oakley <pete.j.oakley@gmail.com> Sent: Thursday, 11 April 2019 9:40 PM To: aus-tasmania@rootsweb.com Subject: [AUS-Tas] Re: ALFRED ALLEN ...a curiosity, Selina Martin Allen is buried in a plot at Carr Villa with William and Edith Annie Jacobson (nee Stebbeings). Who is the Millicent Hannah Allen resident with Alfred Clifton at Hamilton Street, Launceston in 1928 Electoral Roll? She died in 1993 and was cremated at Carr Villa age 90 - https://stors.tas.gov.au/689841 go to 1993 page 248. In the 1958 Electoral Rolls she is living at 32 Venon St, Launceston South along with a Peggy Winifred Allen. There is a Peggy Gibson in the info regarding her cremation so may be the same person. What was Millicent to Alfred Clifton? Both roughly born the same time so she can't be his mother, A sister? or his wife? But there's no indication of a divorce anywhere I can see so was his relationship with Selina defacto? unless Bob has found an actual marriage certificate? Cheers, Peter > >> >>
