I strongly suspect that the road was sealed to provide safer access by the PMG Technicians who staffed and maintained that facility. Unfortunately, I think all those technicians are now at the big tv station in the sky, so I can't ask any of them. My memory is that the road was sealed to The Springs well before that. I would send a query into the State Library might be the quickest was of getting confirmed info.     3. I think 1934 was when the road was first made but I doubt that it was sealed at that time. Anybody know for sure? Thanks to everyone who sent emails on this, I can only help by remembering that we arrived in Hobart in February 1960 and when it snowed, a couple of months later, we took the kids up to the top of Mt Wellington and the road was sealed then.
