Greetings from Gillian Clark in Truganina, Victoria I have just joined this group and this is my first post. It certainly looks like a great place to find and share information. I am researching my husband's family. He is a native Tassie boy and thus far we have been able to identify quite a few of his ancestors. His family groups include the descendants of James Arthur CLARK [1867-1920] and Edith Lily BOULTER [1868-1933] paternal grandparents and David George TRIFFETT [1871-1950] and Mary Hannah Frances COLEMAN [1880-1964] maternal grandparents. Sadly many of the people with personal memories of these ancestors are no longer with us and for some of them we have hit brick walls. The known information is that Edith Boulter was the daughter of Henry John BOULTER [1812-1898] transported to Hobart from England with seven year sentence in 1833 on board the Enchantress. In 1856 he married Margaret BRADBURNE [1834-1910] transported to Hobart from Ireland with seven year sentence [ticket of leave 1853] in 1853. One of their children was Edith Lily BOULTER who married James Arthur CLARK in 1896. Many Hannah Frances COLEMAN also seems to be descendant from a person transported to Hobart i.e. James COLEMAN arrived on 1830 on the Red Rover sentenced to seven years. My biggest brick wall is trying to find out how James Arthur CLARK came to Australia? Having searched numerous records I still cannot locate him. He was born in 1865 or 1867 in Stepney, London the son of William Fredrick Clark and Elizabeth Rebecca Welsh [this name not yet confirmed]. He next turns up at his wedding in 1896 in New Norfolk [marriage certificate held] and then he turns up in Fremantle where their first child is born in 1897. Two other children were born there according the WA BDM and the last child [my late father in law] was born in 1903 in New Norfolk. So they get around the question is how?
