List The software that I suggested is NOT an OCR type programme ! It is a programme that allows you to do the old fashioned thing of transcribing a handwritten item, but it is ALL within ONE programme, instead of the system of having to chop, change and juggle between two or more programmes. As Carolyn stated in yesterday's mails, it does work, BUT ... you have to do the transcribing, and it keeps up with you line by line ! I fully agree that there is tooooo much variability within hand writing over the centuries to be able to have a good OCR specifically for it. I wish there was, as most of my current research is using pre 1600 Scottish handwritten documents and a successful OCR programme would be heaven for these wonderful variable hands.
