Dear List, I am researching the above . As yet have had no luck. However I know the following. Bertha Diehl is a daughter of Carl Johann Diehl & his wife Johanna App. The family arrived on the 'America' July 1855 as Immigrants on the Bounty Plan. Carl & his son were employed at Sayes Court, Bagdad by Frederick Edmund Chalmers as a Gardener & General Servant. Carl & his wife leave the Colony for New Zealand in 1874 on the "Pet" bound for Oamaru, Otago. It would appear that his daughter Bertha marries [but where? N.Z. or the Colony] as she is the mother of 2 children both born in N.Z. & whose father is August Bollenhagen. described as a Confectioner. He dies in N.Z 1867, but Bertha returns to Hobart where she dies in 1873 age 32yrs. There is a suggestion that Bollenhagen lived & worked in the Bagdad area at one time. Does anyone have any information of these 2 families? I would be grateful for any leads. Marie Waddell.
Hi Marie, On Familysearch, there is a marriage between August BOLLENHAGEN and Bertha DUHL at the Congregational Church, Brighton-Tas, on 30 April 1863; also same date, Bagdad-Tas. Death notice for Bertha shows her as the relict of Auguste BOLLENHAGEN (different spelling of his Christian name if you are searching other places). http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article8918369 Cheers Trish Nowra NSW > Bertha Diehl is a daughter of Carl Johann Diehl & his wife Johanna App. > The family arrived on the 'America' July 1855 as Immigrants on the > Bounty Plan. . > It would appear that his daughter Bertha marries [but where? Very odd...I can't find a civil registration for the marriage between August and Bertha yet it did take place as it appears in the Brighton Congregational marriage Register (NS28/1/1-2) at TAHO on microfilm. #15 - 30 April 1863, at the house of Charles Duhl, Bagdad, August Bollenhagen, full age, Confectioner to Bertha Duhl, full age, according to the rites of the Congegational Church. Officiating Minister - John B Shepphard. Witness' - F C Chalmers and Ann Chalmers. Both parties signed their names and Bertha spelt her surname as DIEHL.
